Of broken bones & homes
(to all the souls lost in the recent insurgencies in Nigeria)
By Solomon Hamza
this is not a story of war
yet in this land of mine, bones
beseech
for flesh to clothe their naked
marrows.
do my people not have various
tongues but spit
the same colour of dirge, the same
tone of
grief over blackened remains of
their abode?
are our tears not of the same colour?
somewhere in this country, a bush
reeks of bloodied bones housing
bullets trapped
in flesh. the vicissitudes of life is
a boy running up the hill
& finally into the embrace of sporadic
bullets. he falls &
blooms into the garden of rattled
bodies. a bright red.
a man either from the North, South,
West or East, changes
his residence & now resides
6 feets beneath my feet, staggering
into the hungry
jaws of darkness. at night, his family,
stabbed are afraid to hug
anyone, for fear
of
falling into the open embrace of a
welcoming bullet.
