EREMITE POETRY

HAMEEDAH ARUWA

[There is something]

in her pain that is unnerving/disarming,

Something that ushers her soul into a quiet place
Where she shares space with her mind's awful silence, &

her words — sequestered into solid clumps on her tongue/stagnant.
There is something in her tears that eases the pensive build up

of angst in her chest / makes her conscious of the Rose breasted
grosbeak, perched on a tree branch just outside her window / how each

melody in its song harmonises, with the lyrics of her grief.
There is something about the numbness in her soul, that inspires

her lips to break apart in prayer.
